Floats and Float Making Kits

This section of our website is continuously expanding. We offer Peacock Quills for Waggler making, Porquepine Quills for traditional floats, Sakanda Reed for wagglers straight and bodied, Balsa Waggler Bodies, Cork Float Bodies for the angler who wants to make floats in the traditional style.

We have stripped Goose Quills, again for those who wish to work with traditional materials to make traditional floats.

We have Pilot floats in plain cork for you to make your own Pike floats, supplied drilled and mounted on a plastic tube. We also have cork Pike Bungs and Sliders for you to custom make your own Pike floats.

Plastic inserts for the base of the floats, Loaded inserts from 1gram up to 16 grams, Brass Rod 3mm diameter to make your own loadings for bot Peacock and Sakanda wagglers.

Coming soon we have a range of Plastic Antenna, Carbon Stems, Alloy Stems, Multi Colour Antenna. A range of whipping silks, standard and metalic colours to give you the option to produce very high quality floats, almost to good to loose !

I have managed to obtain a quantity of stripped Goose Quills. They need scorching and sanding but they are top quality.

  • Ten quills in a pack, assorted sizes from 5" up to 10" (approximate)
  • Some are very thick, ideal for heavy traditional style trotting floats.
  • Alternatively, make yourself some traditional Tench Floats.
  • Additional picture shows a few Stripped Goose Quills that have been sanded, whipped and painted and are going through the varnishing process. Different coloured Whipping Cotten can be used on each float to produce some really beautiful floats.

These are genuine grade A Cork Pilot Float bodies. Sold in packs of 5, we drill them and supply them on a plastic tube which you need to glue and trim so they are ready to paint. Ideal for small live baits or close range dead baiting as they offer minimal resistance.

These are genuine Grade A Pike Bung Bodies. Drilled down the centre and supplied with a length of plastic tube to glue in place. Available in small, medium and large, they cover all aspects of Pike fishing. (diamensions will be added shortly)

These Dumpy Slider Pike Float bodies are manufactured from Grade 1 Cork, drilled and are lined with a plastic tube to line the centre hole with, just needs glueing in place. There are two sizes of slider body available (small size in stock very soon along with the larger size pictured).

Metallic Whipping thread for float making and rod building. Each spool holds 100 yards of Metallic thread ` A ` grade. Use these threads for spiral wrapping Goose Quills, Peacock Quills and Porqupine Quills giving them a high quality custom finish producing floats you are proud to use and catch fish with.

Available in Blue, Green, Red, Silver and Gold. Finish with yacht varnish, three to six coats to give a really high grade finish or alternatively use one or two thin coats of two part appoxy resin (used for rod buiding, but for float making use sparingly, two thin coats will give a high quality finish)

These threads can also be used for tipping off rod whippings to give a quality finish.

A pack of five cork Perch Bob Floats, assembled ready for finishing. The body has not been glued and the stem needs sanding, sealing etc.

Once the cork body has been glued in place, seal, paint and varnish and you will have five of the original style of Perch Floats so many of us started with as kids (50+ years ago, scarey or what !!!!!!!?

A Goose Quill Float making kit consists of 10 x Stripped Goose Quills assorted sizes, 10 x whip on stainless steel eyes and a spool of Metalic Thread.

Enough to make ten fantastic floats for trotting or Tench/Carp fishing this coming summer. Sand down the quills with very fine sand paper, whip on the eye, whip up the stem in spirals, paint with your required colour and apply a few coats of varnish and you will have ten works of art.

You can write your name, the weight of the float on the varnished stem between coats using a fine tip marker pen / writing felt tip pen and varnish overe it to seal it in place.
